The Dell PowerEdge R730 ships with one Xeon E5-2603 v3 processor running at 1.6 GHz, six cores and 15 MB cache. A full 256 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed, leaving headroom up to the 768 GB maximum. The 8-bay 3.5-inch chassis supports SATA and SAS drives through the PERC H730 RAID controller, and dual 495 W power supplies are fitted. iDRAC8 Enterprise provides remote management out of the box.

Tool-less rails and colour-coded cabling simplify

The 2U chassis slides into standard rails without tools, and memory risers use ejector levers for quick DIMM changes. Drive carriers latch with a single lever, so the eight 3.5-inch bays can be populated in minutes. Common issues include forgetting to seat the PERC H730 battery-backed cache module, which disables write-back caching, and leaving the iDRAC network port unconfigured, which blocks remote console access.

Confirm rack depth and power infrastructure before

The unit measures 36 inches deep, so verify that your cabinet accommodates that length with cable management. Two 495 W supplies require two PDU outlets on separate circuits for full redundancy. Network uplinks use two 10 GbE and two 1 GbE ports, so ensure matching switch ports and cabling are available. No drives are included; plan the capacity and RAID level you need and order compatible 3.5-inch SAS or SATA disks separately.
