The PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors running at 2.5 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo. Each CPU provides 12 cores for a total of 24 threads across the dual-socket board. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory in four 16 GB modules. It targets midsize and large enterprise workloads such as data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure and database nodes.

Thermals and redundant 750 W supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum-rated power supplies share the load and maintain operation if one unit fails. The 2U chassis uses front-to-rear airflow across the 24 drive bays and the dual processor sockets to keep component temperatures stable under sustained load. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature and CPU utilisation so acoustic output rises only when the workload demands it.

Storage controller and networking built in

A PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode across all 24 SAS bays. The board also includes an Intel X520/I350 daughter card providing two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network topologies. iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives full remote console, power control and firmware update access over a dedicated management port. ReadyRails and a front bezel are included for standard rack mounting.
