Dell PowerEdge R740 8LFF dual Xeon Silver 4210

The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4210 processors running at 2.2 GHz. Each CPU provides ten cores and 13.75 MB of cache. The system ships with 768 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and a PERC H730P RAID controller. It is aimed at organisations that need dense 3.5-inch storage capacity in a standard rack footprint.

Eight 3.5-inch bays with SATA and PERC H730P RAID

The chassis supports up to eight 3.5-inch drives connected through a SATA interface and managed by the Dell PERC H730P controller. Drive modules are not installed, so buyers must supply their own storage media. The integrated 10 GbE 562T dual-port adapter handles network traffic. Remote administration is provided by iDRAC9 with an Enterprise licence.

Replaces older 2U servers limited to fewer drive

Organisations moving from platforms capped at lower DIMM counts or smaller drive cages gain 3 TB maximum memory headroom and eight large-form-factor slots in the same rack height.
