The Dell PowerEdge R740xd chassis holds up to 12 3.5-inch drives and ships with two Xeon Bronze 3106 processors running at 1.7 GHz. A total of 512 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory is installed across the 24 DIMM slots. The PERC H730P RAID controller manages the SATA backplane and supports hardware RAID levels. Integrated graphics and a 10 GbE 2-port 562T adapter provide console and network connectivity. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full remote management.

Check power rails and rail-kit needs

Dual 1100 W power supplies require matching PDU circuits and appropriate IEC cables for the destination rack. Verify that the 36-by-24-by-10-inch form factor fits the allocated rack depth and that airflow clearance meets Dell specifications. No drives are installed; confirm the quantity and type of SATA drives you plan to populate before ordering. The rail kit is available on request and is not included by default. Maximum memory capacity is 3 TB if future expansion is planned.

PERC H730P and iDRAC9 change daily ops

The H730P controller brings hardware RAID with 2 GB non-volatile cache, off-loading parity calculations from the CPUs and enabling online capacity expansion. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides a dedicated management port, virtual console, and automated firmware updates without host OS involvement. The 10 GbE 562T adapter adds two SFP+ ports for high-throughput storage traffic or cluster interconnects. These components reduce hands-on maintenance and support lights-out operation.
