The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack system built around four Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 14 cores. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 48 available slots and includes a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs provide initial storage capacity.

Build integration and expansion

The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch drives and uses redundant hot-swap 1600 W platinum power supplies. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management, while rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.

Sustained-load behaviour

Four 14-core CPUs with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency deliver consistent throughput for virtualisation and database workloads.
