The Google Nest Cam Indoor is a wireless network camera that streams 1080p video at 30 frames per second over 2.4 or 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi. It includes night vision with eight 850 nm infrared LEDs, a 130-degree field of view and two-way audio through a built-in microphone and speaker. The device plugs into mains power via the supplied 5 V DC adapter and is managed through the Nest app on iOS or Android.

Suits remote monitoring, not local storage

This camera suits households that want live viewing, motion and sound alerts, and two-way talk from a phone app with a Nest Aware subscription for continuous recording and familiar-face detection. It does not suit buyers who need onboard recording, a wired Ethernet connection, outdoor weather resistance or operation without an internet connection and AC power outlet.

1080p resolution over Wi-Fi

The single specification that decides fit is the 1920 x 1080 maximum resolution delivered wirelessly over IEEE 802.11b/g/n. If your security plan requires higher pixel counts, local SD-card storage or PoE cabling, this model will not meet those requirements.
