Dense 1U compute platform

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 packs a single Xeon E5-2620v3 six-core processor at 2.4GHz with 32GB of DDR4 ECC memory into a 1U rack chassis. Eight small-form-factor bays accept 2.5-inch SAS drives, and two 146GB 15K spindles are already installed behind a Smart HBA H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 500W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy.

Upgrade path from single-socket limits

The board supports a second Xeon E5 v3 or v4 CPU, raising the core ceiling to 36 and the memory ceiling to 3TB across 24 DIMM slots. Adding the second processor unlocks the remaining 12 slots and doubles memory bandwidth, making the jump worthwhile for virtualisation hosts or database nodes that outgrow the single-socket configuration. Without the second CPU the installed 32GB already hits the one-processor maximum.

Slide-in deployment with cable discipline

Rails mount the 1U unit in standard racks; the H240ar connects to the backplane with a single mini-SAS cable that must be seated before the first boot. Drive trays are keyed, yet installers occasionally force them upside-down, bending the SAS connector. The Matrox G200 graphics output is VGA only, so a KVM or crash cart needs the matching adapter. No operating system ships with the server.
