32-core Xeon for dual-socket servers

This Intel Xeon Gold 6438Y+ is a 32-core server processor built on a 10 nm process. It targets dual-socket platforms that need high thread density for virtualisation, database or high-performance computing workloads. The chip fits the LGA 4677 socket and delivers 64 threads for parallel tasks. It is not for single-socket workstations or builds that cannot accommodate a 205 W thermal envelope.

60 MB L3 cache and DDR5-4800 across eight channels

The processor provides 60 MB of shared L3 cache to keep large working sets close to the cores. Eight memory channels support DDR5 at 4800 MT/s, giving substantial bandwidth for memory-bound applications. Maximum addressable capacity reaches 4 TB per socket, so very large in-memory datasets fit comfortably. Workloads that exceed 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes or require more than two sockets will hit platform limits.

Installation requires an LGA 4677 motherboard designed for 205 W cooling and eight-channel memory routing. The 80 PCI Express 5.0 lanes connect directly to the CPU, freeing the chipset for storage and networking add-in cards. Dual-socket scalability is native, so a second identical processor doubles cores, memory channels and I/O without extra bridges. Systems limited to fewer memory slots or a single socket cannot use the full capability.
