Uninterruptible power HAT for Raspberry Pi Pico with I2C battery monitoring and multi-protection charging circuits

  • Uninterruptible power keeps Pico running during recharge
  • I2C monitoring shows voltage, current, power and capacity
  • Dynamic power path management delivers stable supply
  • Multi-circuit protection guards against over-charge, over-discharge, over-current and shorts
  • Onboard indicators confirm charging, power and battery status

UPS HAT for Raspberry Pi Pico

The LORDWORLD UPS HAT mounts directly onto the standard Pico header and adds an uninterruptible power supply function. It uses a Li-ion battery switching charger with dynamic power path management to keep the board running while the cell recharges. Real-time battery voltage, current, power and remaining capacity are reported over the I2C bus. Multiple protection circuits guard against over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short circuit and reverse polarity.

Build integration and power flow

The HAT draws power from the external supply to run the Pico and charge the connected Li-ion cell simultaneously, then switches seamlessly to battery power when the input is removed. Onboard indicators show charging status, power presence and a battery warning so you can verify correct cell connection at a glance. No additional wiring is required beyond the Pico header and a compatible Li-ion battery.

Suitable for portable and remote projects

This module suits makers building battery-backed data loggers, remote sensors or handheld devices that must survive brief power interruptions. It is not for applications needing higher current than the Pico header can deliver, projects that require a different battery chemistry, or designs that cannot accommodate the HAT’s footprint on top of the Pico board.

Preguntas sobre este artículo

How long can the Li-ion battery switching charger with dynamic power path management sustain the Pico under continuous load?

The module uses a Li-ion battery switching charger with dynamic power path management for stable supply; runtime depends on the connected battery capacity and the Pico's actual current draw.

What are the thermal and noise characteristics when the UPS HAT runs all day while charging and powering the Pico?

The board has no fan; heat comes from the charger IC and protection circuits during charge or discharge, and operation is silent.

Which battery connector and Li-ion cell specifications are required for the onboard protection circuits to function correctly?

The HAT expects a single Li-ion cell connected to its onboard battery header; the protection circuits handle over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short-circuit and reverse polarity for that cell.
