This adapter converts an mSATA host connection into a standard SATA port so a 2.5in or 3.5in SATA hard drive or SSD can be used in place of an mSATA module. It is aimed at system builders and upgraders who need to add larger-capacity storage to a platform that only provides an mSATA slot. The board accepts drives of any height and ships with a screw kit and installation guide.
Upgrade path from mSATA modules to larger SATA
The jump is worthwhile when the existing mSATA device is too small or too costly per gigabyte and the host system has physical room for a 2.5in or 3.5in drive. By exposing a full-size SATA receptacle the adapter lets you install a conventional SATA drive without replacing the motherboard or controller. It supports SATA I, II and III signalling up to 6.0 Gbps so the connected drive runs at its native interface speed.
Capacity headroom tested to 4TB and 7200 RPM
The adapter has been tested with drives up to 4TB capacity and 7200 RPM spindle speed, giving ample headroom for bulk storage, backups or media libraries. Performance scales with the attached drive and the host’s SATA revision; a SATA III drive on a SATA III host delivers the full 6.0 Gbps link rate. Mechanical constraints of the chassis, not the adapter, determine the maximum drive height that can be installed.
