The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 16 GB of DDR4 memory into a 1U chassis. Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays and a Perc H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache support SAS or SATA drives in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60. Redundant 550 W power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management come standard.

SAS 12 Gbps controller limits drive speed

The H730 controller operates at 12 Gbps while the three included 300 GB drives run at 6 Gbps 15 K rpm, so the array will not saturate the controller. Twelve DIMM slots allow up to 384 GB total, but the installed processor caps memory speed at 2400 MT/s. Only two PCIe 3.0 slots are available for expansion cards.
