Dual Xeon 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server built for dual-socket workloads. Two Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processors at 2.4GHz deliver 32 logical threads with hyper-threading. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 memory across 12 DIMM slots, six per processor, and includes a DVD-ROM drive. This configuration suits virtualisation hosts, database nodes or application servers that need redundant power and hot-swap drive bays in a standard rack footprint.

32GB DDR4 ceiling and 8-bay storage limit

Installed memory is fixed at 32GB because the specification lists maximum capacity as 32GB, so there is no headroom for expansion without replacing modules. The Perc H730 RAID controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across up to eight 3.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA bays. Two 600GB 15K SAS drives are fitted, leaving six bays open for additional capacity up to the stated 80TB maximum. Storage performance scales with the number and type of drives populated in the remaining slots.

Redundant power, iDRAC8 remote management

Dual 750W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band management, virtual console and firmware updates over a dedicated network interface. A daughter card adds four 1GbE ports for production traffic. Five PCIe slots — three PCIe 3.0 and two PCIe 2.0 — allow extra network adapters, HBAs or GPU accelerators. The Matrox G200eR2 with 8MB cache handles basic video output for local console access.
