Dense 1U compute node

The PowerEdge R630 fits two Xeon sockets and twenty-four DDR4 DIMM slots into a single rack unit. A single E5-2603 v3 six-core processor at 1.6 GHz and sixteen gigabytes of memory are installed. Ten hot-plug 2.5-inch bays and dual 750 watt redundant supplies complete the package for space-constrained workloads.

Memory ceiling and storage headroom

Sixteen gigabytes fills only a fraction of the twenty-four slots; the platform accepts up to one thousand five hundred thirty-six gigabytes when both sockets are populated. Two 300 gigabyte fifteen thousand RPM SAS drives occupy a pair of bays, leaving eight slots open for additional SAS or SATA media up to fourteen terabytes each. The H730 controller supports RAID levels zero through sixty.

PCIe 3.0 and networking limits

Three PCIe 3.0 expansion slots plus a dedicated PERC slot provide I/O headroom for additional controllers or network adapters. The standard daughter card delivers four one-gigabit Ethernet ports; optional cards can upgrade the link to ten gigabit. No optical drive bay exists in the ten-bay chassis, so installation media must be delivered via network or USB.
