The Dell PowerEdge R630 packs a single six-core Intel Xeon E5-2620 V3 at 2.4GHz and 24GB of DDR4 into a 1U rack chassis. It targets workloads that need high core density per rack unit such as virtualization hosts, database nodes or HPC clusters. Buyers who want more storage or GPU acceleration should look elsewhere.

Hot-plug drive bays and redundant power

Eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA bays connect to the Perc H730 controller with 2GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two 750W hot-swap supplies share the load, while three PCIe 3.0 slots and a dedicated PERC slot leave room for network or storage add-in cards. The iDRAC8 remote-management module provides out-of-band control.

Steady thermal envelope

The 1U form factor forces airflow through a fixed path, so sustained multi-core turbo depends on inlet temperature and fan curves rather than burst headroom. Memory runs at up to 2400MT/s per processor capability, and the Matrox G200 video handles console output without drawing compute power. Four 1GbE ports on the daughter card handle baseline traffic; optional 10GbE NDCs can be added for heavier flows.
