The PowerEdge R640 packs two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors, each with 24 cores at 2.1 GHz and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency, into a single rack unit. With 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules, it targets virtualisation clusters, hyper-converged infrastructure and database tiers that demand high core density in minimal space. The platform supports up to 3 TB of memory across 24 slots for future growth.

Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies

Dual hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide full redundancy while the 1U chassis airflow design handles the thermal load of both 24-core CPUs and eight solid-state drives under sustained utilisation. The PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery-backed write-back caching manages storage I/O without adding discrete components that increase power draw or acoustic output.

Eight 800 GB enterprise SSDs

The server ships with eight Dell enterprise 800 GB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5-inch SSDs connected to the H730P controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network topology, while iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full out-of-band remote management. ReadyRails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.
