PowerEdge R730 for virtualisation and databases

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprise workloads such as data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure and high-performance computing nodes. Dual Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors deliver 28 cores at 2.4 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo, while 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory supports memory-intensive applications. Eight 800 GB SATA SSDs and a PERC H730 controller provide fast, redundant storage for databases and virtual machines.

Tool-less rail mounting and hot-swap components

Ready Rails allow the 2U chassis to slide into a standard rack without tools, and the front bezel snaps on afterwards. Both 750 W platinum power supplies are hot-swappable, so a failed unit can be replaced without downtime. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays are also hot-swap, letting you exchange SSDs while the server runs. Cable routing through the rear keeps airflow clean, but the deep chassis requires a rack with sufficient depth clearance.

1.5 TB maximum memory capacity decides fit

The Intel C610 chipset and 24 DIMM slots support up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory, so the installed 128 GB can grow substantially for expanding workloads. If your application demands more than 1.5 TB, this platform cannot accommodate it and a different server generation would be required. The PERC H730 handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, giving flexibility for performance or redundancy without changing the controller.
