The Dell PowerEdge R730 fits two sockets into a 2U chassis and ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory occupy 24 DIMM slots, leaving headroom for a second CPU and additional modules. The platform targets workloads that need many threads in a compact rack footprint.

H730 controller with 1GB cache enables flexible RAID

A dedicated Perc H730 card provides 12Gbps SAS connectivity and 1GB of write-back cache. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across up to eight hot-plug 2.5-inch bays. Two 900GB 10K SAS drives are installed, and the controller can manage mixed SAS or SATA media without additional cabling.

48GB installed, 1536GB maximum with second CPU

The current 48GB configuration uses half the memory slots and one processor. Adding the second Xeon unlocks the remaining 12 slots and raises the ceiling to 1536GB of DDR4 at 2400MT/s. Storage scales to 64TB across the eight bays, while seven PCIe 3.0 slots and a dedicated PERC slot provide I/O expansion. Buyers needing more than 48GB of memory or dual-processor performance from day one should plan for additional modules and a second CPU.
