Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drive bays into a 2U rack chassis. Dual Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors provide 16 physical cores at 2.4 GHz with hyper-threading for 32 threads. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across 24 DIMM slots. The integrated Perc H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

Upgrade from limited bay count

Replaces 1U or tower servers that cannot hold more than a handful of drives. The jump is worth it when workloads need up to 52 TB of raw SAS or SATA capacity in a single rack unit pair. Three 900 GB 10K SAS drives are included for immediate array creation. Redundant 750 W power supplies remove single-point-of-failure risk.

Build integration

Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot leave room for additional network or acceleration cards. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller handles remote deployment and monitoring out of band. Four 1 GbE ports on the daughter card provide baseline connectivity; optional 10 GbE NDCs can be added later. No operating system is included.
