Dense 2U storage server

The PowerEdge R730XD packs 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch bays into 2U, giving capacity-hungry workloads a compact rack footprint. A single Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor at 1.9GHz and 8GB of DDR4 handle the base compute, while the H730 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60 across the installed drives.

Three enterprise SATA drives and 1GB cache

Three 1TB 7.2K SATA drives arrive pre-loaded with trays so the array is operational immediately. The H730 adds 1GB of 12Gbps cache, which absorbs write bursts and keeps rebuilds moving without an extra battery module. Dual 750W redundant supplies keep the chassis running if one unit fails.

PCIe 3.0 and 1GbE ceiling

Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot limit expansion to that generation’s bandwidth, so newer 4.0 cards will fall back. The standard daughter card provides only four 1GbE ports; 10GbE requires an optional NDC upgrade. Maximum memory tops out at 1536GB across 24 slots, but the installed CPU caps actual speed at 2400MT/s.
