Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug drive bays into a two-rack-unit chassis. A single Xeon E5-2630 v3 with eight cores at 2.4 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 handles storage workloads. The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across all bays. Dual 750 W redundant supplies keep the array running during a power-module failure.

Hot-plug bays and redundant power

Twenty-four front-accessible trays accept SAS or SATA drives so failed disks can be swapped without tools or downtime. The H730 card occupies a dedicated slot, leaving up to six PCIe 3.0 slots free for networking or HBA expansion. Dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies share the load and can be replaced one at a time. iDRAC8 Express provides out-of-band remote management over the network.

Single CPU and 8 GB base memory

Only one processor is installed, so the twelve DIMM slots on the second socket remain empty until a second Xeon is added. The 8 GB shipped configuration uses a single module, leaving twenty-three slots open for DDR4 upgrades up to 1 536 GB total. Buyers who need more compute threads or larger memory footprints must purchase additional processors and DIMMs separately.
