Dense storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch bays into a 2U rack chassis, giving buyers a high-capacity platform for databases, virtualisation hosts or backup targets. A single Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz and 96 GB of DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots provides the compute base. The H330 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across the three installed 300 GB 15K SAS drives. Additional processor and drive configurations are available.

Dual 750 W redundant supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W power supplies share the load so a single failure does not halt the system. The 2U form factor uses front-to-rear airflow through multiple system fans to keep the dense drive cage and CPU within thermal limits during sustained workloads. Acoustic output is typical for a rack-mounted server in a cooled data-centre aisle. Power draw scales with the number of drives and the second processor if installed.

iDRAC8 remote management

The integrated iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band hardware monitoring, firmware updates and virtual console access without an operating system. Express licensing is included; Enterprise features and vFlash media are optional upgrades. A DVD-ROM is fitted for legacy media installs. The daughter card supplies four 1 GbE ports, while optional NDC modules can add 10 GbE connectivity. Up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot remain free for expansion cards.
