The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.6 GHz with 32 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Two 1 TB 7.2K SAS drives connect through the Smart HBA H240ar controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running. It targets IT teams that need compute density in a 1U form factor without sacrificing internal storage bays.

Upgrade from older 2U

Moving from a larger chassis into this 1U design recovers rack space while keeping four LFF drive bays and 24 DIMM slots for future growth. The jump is worth it when the workload fits within a single processor and 32 GB today but may scale to a second CPU and up to 3 TB of memory later. Buyers who need more than four 3.5-inch bays or who require GPU acceleration beyond the integrated Matrox G200 should look elsewhere.

The chassis provides four 3.5-inch SAS bays with trays included for the installed drives. Twenty-four DDR4 slots — twelve per processor — allow incremental memory upgrades using 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB modules up to 2400 MT/s. The H240ar controller handles both 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA devices. Dual 500 W supplies free the rack PDU from single-point-of-failure concerns. No operating system is included.
