Server identity

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 600 GB 15K SAS drives managed by a Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB flash-backed write cache. The chassis provides 16 small-form-factor drive bays and dual 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies. No operating system is included.

Build integration

The system occupies 2U of rack space and supports a second processor for up to 36 total cores across both sockets. Twenty-four DDR4 DIMM slots allow memory expansion to 3 TB using 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB modules at up to 2400 MT/s, actual speed depending on the installed CPU. The P440 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the SAS backplane, and an optional universal media bay or eight additional SFF bays can be added in bay three. Builders needing more than 16 front drives or a different drive interface must look elsewhere.

Bundled impact

The included P440 controller with 4 GB FBWC enables write-back caching without battery maintenance, improving random-write latency for database and virtualisation workloads. Dual redundant power supplies keep the server running through a single supply failure. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics chip provides basic console output only. Buyers who need an operating system, additional drives, or a second processor must source those separately.
