It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC UDIMM memory, expandable to 64 GB across four slots. The platform targets organisations that need high-throughput file collaboration, virtualization or mail-server workloads in a compact rack footprint.

The chassis provides four Gigabit RJ-45 links, two USB 3.0 ports and four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays that also accept 2.5-inch SATA HDDs, 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and M.2 2280 NVMe or SATA SSDs. Dual built-in M.2 2280 slots enable SSD cache without occupying drive bays, while the PCIe 3.0 slot allows an optional 10GbE or 25GbE NIC for bandwidth-intensive environments. Power draw is 68.68 W during access and 34.78 W in HDD hibernation on 100–240 V AC.

Attaching a Synology RX1217 or RX1217RP expansion unit grows raw capacity to 224 TB. The bundled DiskStation Manager OS delivers SMB, AFP, NFS, FTP, WebDAV, iSCSI, VPN and comprehensive backup, snapshot and virtualization tools. Sequential read performance exceeds 1,523 MB/s and iSCSI random read reaches 162,097 IOPS, supporting heavy multi-user workloads out of the box.
