The Dell 6KP53 is a 3.5-inch hard-drive carrier tray built for the ME4084 and ME5084 storage arrays. It provides the mechanical interface that lets a standard 3.5-inch drive slide into the enclosure's drive bays. System administrators maintaining these Dell platforms use it to replace a damaged tray or to populate empty slots with additional drives.

Tool-free drive installation

The tray uses a tool-free design so a 3.5-inch drive can be secured without screws. Alignment pins on the tray match the drive's mounting holes; pressing the drive in until it clicks locks it in place. The most common issue is inserting the drive upside-down or failing to engage both pins, which prevents the tray from seating fully in the bay.

Empty carrier for 3.5-inch drives

Supplied without a drive, the carrier adds no storage capacity of its own. It simply enables each installed 3.5-inch drive to connect to the array's backplane. The practical limit is the number of drive bays in the ME4084 or ME5084 chassis; once every bay holds a tray, no further drives can be added without expanding the enclosure.
