The Dell PowerEdge R530 fits eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays into a 2U chassis, giving capacity-focused teams room for large SAS or SATA datasets. Dual Xeon E5-2630 V3 processors supply 16 physical cores and 32 threads at 2.4 GHz. Pre-loaded with 48 GB of DDR4 across 12 DIMM slots, the platform tops out at 384 GB when fully populated.

Eight-bay hot-plug chassis with H730 RAID

The single specification that decides fit is the eight-bay 3.5-inch hot-plug backplane paired with the Perc H730 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two 2 TB 7.2 K SAS drives ship installed, leaving six bays open for expansion up to 80 TB raw. The H730 adds 1 GB cache and 12 Gbps SAS throughput for parity-heavy arrays.

Redundant power and remote management under load

Dual 750 W redundant supplies keep the server running during a single-unit failure, while iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band monitoring and firmware updates without host OS involvement. Four 1 GbE ports on a daughter card handle sustained network traffic, and five PCIe slots (three 3.0, two 2.0) accept additional NICs or HBAs for long-running workloads.
