The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots, reaching the stated maximum capacity of 64 GB. The platform targets environments that need many local drive bays in a compact rack footprint.

Hot-plug bays and redundant power

Twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives, supported by a Dell PERC H330 RAID controller offering RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Two 750 W redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the system running during a supply failure. A DVD-ROM drive and a daughter card with four 1 GbE ports handle basic media and network needs, while iDRAC8 provides remote management.

Single processor limits expandability

Only one CPU is installed, so the second socket remains empty and half the memory channels are unused. Buyers who need the full 1536 GB memory ceiling or the complete PCIe 3.0 lane count must add a second processor. The Matrox G200 video and single power cable are included; rails, bezel, keyboard, mouse and video cable are not.
