USB-C to SATA adapter for 2.5 drives

This cable connects a 2.5 SATA hard drive or SSD to a USB Type-C port on a laptop, desktop or Android device. It is aimed at users who need quick access to bare drives for data recovery, cloning or extra storage without an enclosure. No drivers are required on Windows, Linux, Mac OS or Android. Handles drives up to 6TB with optional power

The adapter powers most 2.5 drives directly from the host port and includes a reserved Type-C 5V input for larger units. The manufacturer states it drives a 6TB hard disk easily, so capacity headroom is generous for current 2.5 models. Very high-capacity drives or those with above-average spin-up current may still need the auxiliary power connection. Transfer rates peak at the USB 3.0 limit rather than the drive’s own maximum.

Limited by USB 3.0 5Gbps and UASP overhead

The link uses USB 3.0 to SATA 3.0 with UASP protocol, rated at 5Gbps. In testing the supplier recorded 480M/s, which is the practical ceiling for this interface. SATA SSDs capable of 6Gbps will be bottlenecked, and mechanical drives will not saturate the link. The 1m cable adds negligible latency but does not overcome the bandwidth constraint.
