Buffalo Technology
An 8-bay desktop NAS pre-loaded with 80 TB across four 20 TB drives, a quad-core 2.04 GHz processor, 8 GB DDR4, one 10 GbE and two 1 GbE ports, plus USB 3.0 and 2.0, ready for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6.
Included HDD Capacity 80TB (4 x 20TB)
Option Partially Populated
The Buffalo TeraStation 5820 delivers 80 terabytes of pre-configured storage across four installed 20-terabyte drives. An Annapurna Labs AL524 quad-core processor at 2.04 gigahertz and eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory handle file serving, backup and virtualization workloads. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD are supported out of the box. The unit ships with drives tested and RAID set up, so deployment starts immediately.
Moving to this eight-bay platform adds native 10-gigabit Ethernet alongside two gigabit ports, removing the network bottleneck that limits smaller NAS boxes. The jump is worth it when concurrent users need sustained throughput for large media files, VM images or database backups. Four empty SATA bays remain for future expansion without replacing the chassis. Buyers who need more than eight drive slots or a rack-mount form factor cannot use this model.
The single 10-gigabit RJ-45 port caps peak network throughput at ten gigabits per second, so aggregated client traffic above that level will queue. Each drive bay uses SATA, so drive speed is bounded by the SATA interface rather than faster protocols. USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports provide peripheral attach points but do not extend the internal storage bus. Power draw reaches 112 watts under load, requiring a standard 100-240 volt AC supply.

Other versions of this model
Same family, different memory, cooler or clock — compare before you commit.
The desktop chassis measures 9.06 inches wide, 11.81 inches deep and 8.46 inches high; allow extra clearance at the rear for the AC cable and four USB ports.
Four 20TB drives ship pre-installed in the first four bays and the RAID is already configured; add new drives to the empty bays only after the unit has been powered off and the front panel unlocked with the supplied key.
The included drives are covered by the manufacturer's three-year warranty; the DDR4 memory is soldered and not user-replaceable, so plan drive refreshes around the warranty period or SMART alerts.
