Dense 1U compute node

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz and 24 GB of DDR4 memory into a 1U rack chassis. It targets departments that need reliable application hosting or virtualisation density without the depth of larger servers. The H730 RAID controller manages three 300 GB 15K SAS drives with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays.

Redundant cooling and power

A single 550 W redundant hot-swap power supply feeds the system while four 1 GbE ports handle network traffic. The 1U form factor uses front-to-rear airflow designed for standard rack cabinets. Installed memory occupies 24 GB across the twelve DDR4 DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum of 384 GB when a second processor is added.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the eight cores and sixteen threads maintain 2.4 GHz while the H730 controller sustains SAS throughput across the configured RAID array. The 1U chassis limits maximum drive count to eight bays and PCIe expansion to two 3.0 slots, so workloads requiring larger local storage or multiple accelerators will need external enclosures or a taller server. Remote management runs on iDRAC8 Express with optional Enterprise upgrades.
