Compact 1U Rack Server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for dense data-center environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1GHz with 16 cores each and 32GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory. The PERC H330 controller manages eight 600GB 10K SAS drives in 2.5-inch bays. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express provide remote management out of the box.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Dual 550W platinum power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation under heavy virtualization or database workloads. The 1U chassis limits airflow compared with larger form factors, so thermal headroom depends on rack cooling capacity rather than burst-frequency spikes. ECC memory and the H330 controller maintain data integrity during extended compute tasks. Turbo frequency of 3.7GHz is available when thermal conditions allow but cannot be sustained indefinitely in a dense rack row.

Storage Interface Limits

The PERC H330 provides 12Gb/s SAS connectivity to the eight drive bays and also supports SATA devices for mixed deployments. SAS topology caps the array at eight physical drives without an external expander. SATA drives will operate at their native 6Gb/s link speed through the same backplane. PCIe expansion slots remain available for additional storage controllers or networking adapters if the internal bays are exhausted.
