Compact 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for dense data centre environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors running at 2.2GHz with a 3.0GHz turbo frequency, each providing 10 cores. The system includes 128GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across eight 16GB modules. A PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache and battery backup handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 550W platinum power supplies and dual 1GbE ports complete the core configuration.

Virtualisation hosts and storage clusters

This server suits teams running virtualisation, application hosting or database workloads where rack density and redundant power matter. The four 3.5-inch bays arrive populated with fillers, so buyers needing immediate drive capacity must source drives separately. Organisations requiring front bezel or ready rails should note these are not included. Workloads demanding higher core counts per socket, larger memory footprints or 10GbE networking out of the box will need a different platform.

Controller cache and remote management

The H730P battery-backed cache protects in-flight data during unexpected power loss and enables advanced RAID levels including 50 and 60. iDRAC 9 Express provides remote console, power control and hardware monitoring without a dedicated management port. Dual platinum power supplies allow hot-swap replacement while the system stays online. The integrated dual-port Gigabit adapter handles baseline connectivity; additional network cards can be added via PCIe slots.
