Rack server for dense workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R530 occupies 2U of rack space and ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 V3 eight-core processor running at 2.4GHz. It provides 128GB of DDR4 memory across twelve DIMM slots and includes two 2TB 7.2K SAS drives managed by a PERC H730 controller with 1GB cache. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and a DVD ROM complete the baseline configuration.

Expands within the chassis

Eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives up to a combined 80TB, while the H730 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Five PCIe slots — three at 3.0 and two at 2.0 — allow additional networking, storage or accelerator cards. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller handles remote management, and a four-port 1GbE daughter card is fitted.

Sustained operation in a 2U form

Redundant hot-swap power supplies maintain uptime during a module failure, and the 12Gbps controller bandwidth keeps throughput steady during prolonged RAID rebuilds or sequential workloads. Memory runs at speeds the processor supports, up to 2400MT/s, and the system is validated for a maximum of 384GB.
