Dual-socket Xeon Gold 6130 server

The Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rackmount server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.10 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. Sixteen cores and thirty-two threads provide strong multi-threaded throughput for virtualization, databases and file serving. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory are installed across four slots, leaving room to scale toward the one-terabyte maximum. Eight 8 TB 7.2 K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730P 2 GB controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

Sustained workload behaviour

Dual 750 W 80+ Platinum power supplies deliver redundant hot-swap power for continuous operation. The PERC H730P controller battery protects cached writes during unexpected power loss, preserving data integrity on the eight-drive array. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote monitoring, firmware updates and power cycling without physical access. The dual 1 GbE network daughter card provides baseline connectivity for management and application traffic. The platform supports up to two processors, so compute capacity is fixed at the current configuration.

Thermals, noise and power

Intelligent cooling manages airflow across the 2U chassis to maintain stable temperatures under load. Redundant power supplies share the load, reducing stress on each unit and improving overall efficiency. Hot-swap drive bays and power supplies allow component replacement without shutting down the server. The included rails and bezel simplify rack installation and physical security. No operating system is pre-installed, so the administrator chooses the hypervisor or OS that matches the workload.
