The Dell PowerEdge R640 fits a full dual-socket platform into a single rack unit. Two Xeon Gold 6148 processors deliver 40 cores total with a 2.40 GHz base clock and 3.70 GHz turbo. 256 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz memory across eight modules supports heavy virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads. Four 1.92 TB enterprise SATA SSDs provide 7.68 TB of fast storage capacity.

Hot-swap power and integrated remote management

Redundant hot-swappable power supplies let you replace a unit without taking the server offline. A PERC H730 RAID controller with 2 GB non-volatile cache manages the drive array. The Broadcom BCM5720 quad-port 1 GbE controller handles network connectivity through the rNDC interface. iDRAC9 Express gives out-of-band remote access for monitoring and maintenance. A rail kit is included for rack mounting.

Verify rack depth and OS licensing before ordering

Drives and memory ship separately and require installation in the chassis. Confirm your rack can accommodate a 1U server with the supplied rails. The included Windows Server 2022 Standard license covers 16 cores; the dual 20-core CPUs total 40 cores, so additional licensing may be needed.
