The Dell PowerEdge R640 fits four 3.5-inch drive bays into a single rack unit, delivering high storage density for database or virtualisation clusters. Dual Xeon Silver 4114 processors provide twenty cores at 2.2GHz, while 64GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory supports memory-intensive workloads. The PERC H740P RAID controller manages SATA drives with hardware acceleration.

Integration requirements and expansion

The chassis accepts up to four SATA hard drives, which are not included, so buyers must supply their own storage media. Two 750W power supplies are installed for redundancy, and the 10GbE 2-port 562T adapter handles high-throughput networking. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote firmware updates and out-of-band management without additional licensing. A rail kit is available separately for rack mounting.

Sustained-load behaviour

BIOS and firmware are updated to the latest stable release before shipment, and each unit undergoes a full burn-in test to verify thermal stability under continuous operation. The dual-processor configuration maintains consistent clock speeds during prolonged compute tasks, while the redundant power supplies protect uptime if one module fails. Integrated graphics handle console output without consuming a discrete GPU slot.
