Dual-socket Xeon Bronze server for entry-scale

The Dell PowerEdge R640 delivers two Intel Xeon Bronze 3104 processors at 1.7 GHz with six cores each and 8.25 MB cache per CPU. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across the system. A PERC H740P RAID controller manages up to four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays, and an integrated 10 GbE dual-port 562T adapter handles network traffic.

Replaces single-socket or older dual-socket towers

Moving from a single-processor platform doubles the thread count and memory-channel bandwidth without changing rack footprint. The jump is worth it when applications need more concurrent threads than a six-core chip provides but do not yet justify higher-frequency Silver or Gold SKUs. The H740P controller also upgrades basic software RAID to hardware RAID with cache-backed write performance.

Fits standard 1U racks with redundant 750 W supplies

Two R720 750 W power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. iDRAC9 Enterprise gives remote console, virtual media and full lifecycle management over a dedicated management port. The four large-form-factor bays free internal space for high-capacity SATA drives, while the half-height PCIe slots remain open for additional NICs or HBAs.
