Purpose-Built 1U Server

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs is a new 1U rack server fitted with dual Intel Xeon Silver 4310 processors. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and ten 1.8TB SAS hard drives managed by a PERC H745 controller. Two 1400W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise provide redundant power and remote management out of the box.

Storage Density Decides Fit

Ten front-accessible 2.5-inch bays hold the included 10K SAS drives behind the H745 RAID controller with 4GB non-volatile cache. The backplane supports SAS, SATA and NVMe, so the same chassis can be re-populated with solid-state media later. If the workload needs more than ten drives or 3.5-inch form factors, a different chassis is required.

Suits Dense Virtualisation, Not GPU Farms

This configuration targets virtualisation hosts, cloud nodes and database clusters that prioritise CPU cores and internal storage in a single rack unit. Buyers who need GPU acceleration, more than two processors or larger drive bays should evaluate alternative platforms.
