The Dell PowerEdge R650xs is a 1U rackmount server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.4 GHz turbo and 20 cores each. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules. The PERC H745 controller with 4 GB NV cache and battery backs RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides full remote management. Two 1400 W platinum power supplies and a Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card complete the package.

Tool-less rails and hot-swap trays simplify

Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for quick rack mounting. Eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA hot-swap drive trays allow drive changes without powering down. The PERC H745 controller is pre-installed in a front-accessible slot. Redundant hot-swap power supplies can be replaced individually. The most common issue is forgetting to licence iDRAC9 Enterprise features after the evaluation period, which disables advanced remote console and automation functions. Eight 2.5-inch bays limit raw capacity versus

The eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SAS, SATA or NVMe media, but the total number of slots caps maximum raw storage below what a 2U or 4U platform can hold. Buyers who need more storage density should consider a chassis with additional bays. The server supports up to 1 TB of DDR4 memory, so the installed 256 GB leaves room for expansion.
