The DELL PowerEdge R650xs is a 1U rack server built for dense data-centre deployments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5317 processors, each running at 3.0 GHz with 12 cores and 3.6 GHz turbo. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory and eight 1.8 TB SAS hard drives managed by a PERC H745 RAID controller. Redundant 1400 W platinum power supplies, iDRAC9 Enterprise, a dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP card, rails and a front bezel complete the package.

Thermals noise and power draw

Dual 1400 W platinum-rated supplies share the load and provide full redundancy, so normal operation stays efficient even under sustained compute demand. The 1U chassis uses high-speed fans that ramp with CPU and drive temperatures; expect noticeable airflow noise typical of dense rack hardware. Power consumption scales with both processors and all eight 10 K drives active, but the platinum efficiency rating keeps waste heat lower than standard supplies.

What the bundled accessories and software change

iDRAC9 Enterprise enables out-of-band remote management, firmware updates and hardware health monitoring without an operating system. The PERC H745 controller adds 4 GB of battery-backed cache, allowing write-back acceleration and support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight SAS drives. Ready Rails simplify rack installation, while the front bezel protects drive bays and provides a clean appearance. The 10 GbE SFP+ OCP card adds high-speed networking without consuming a PCIe slot.
