Dense 1U rack server for virtualisation workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs fits a single 1U rack slot while hosting two Xeon Gold 5317 processors at 3.0GHz with 12 cores each. It ships with 128GB of DDR4 2933MHz registered ECC memory across eight DIMM slots. Ten front-access 2.5-inch bays hold 1.92TB SATA SSDs managed by a PERC H745 controller with 4GB NV cache. The platform targets dense virtualisation, cloud infrastructure and data analytics deployments.

Front storage density and remote management

Ten hot-swap 2.5-inch bays accept SATA, SAS or NVMe drives so the array can be tuned for capacity or speed without consuming rear space. The PERC H745 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible redundancy. A Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1GbE OCP 3.0 card provides four RJ-45 links. iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full out-of-band control over power, firmware and console access. Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack integration.

Redundant 1400W platinum power and thermal control

Dual 1400-watt platinum-efficiency supplies operate in redundant hot-swap mode, maintaining uptime if one unit fails. The 1U chassis uses directed airflow across the processors, memory and drive bays to keep thermals stable under sustained load. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature and component utilisation, limiting acoustic output in typical data-centre aisles. Power draw varies with CPU turbo up to 3.6GHz and drive activity but stays within the supply rating.
