The Dell PowerEdge R650xs packs two Xeon Gold 6330 processors into a single rack unit, delivering 56 cores running at 2.0 GHz with a 3.1 GHz turbo ceiling. Eight 32 GB DDR4 modules provide 256 GB of registered ECC memory at 2933 MHz. Eight 1.8 TB 10K SAS drives sit behind a PERC H745 controller with 4 GB cache and battery-backed write protection. Dual 1400 W platinum supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise complete the package.

Suits dense virtualization clusters, not GPU farms

This chassis targets cloud and HPC clusters that need maximum thread count per rack unit and fast local SAS storage. The 1U form factor leaves no room for full-length accelerators, so workloads requiring GPU compute should look elsewhere. Buyers who need more than 1 TB of memory or additional drive bays must choose a larger platform. The fixed 256 GB configuration also limits customers who want to stage memory upgrades incrementally.

Dual-socket LGA 4189 limits future CPU swaps

The board accepts only two 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processors in the LGA 4189 socket, so any upgrade path stays within that generation and socket family. Memory tops out at 1 TB across 16 DDR4 slots, and the PERC H745 handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the eight 2.5 inch bays. Network connectivity is provided by a Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 adapter. All other expansion depends on the single OCP slot and rear I/O.
