Dual Xeon E5-2609 v3 2U server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 processors, each running at 1.9 GHz with six cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots and includes two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives managed by a PERC H330 RAID controller. Dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation in small-business or branch-office workloads.

8-bay 2.5" hot-plug SATA/SAS limit

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug drives using SATA or SAS interfaces, capping raw capacity at 64 TB when fully populated. The H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 but does not present a cache-backed write buffer, so sustained random-write throughput is constrained by the controller architecture. Network connectivity defaults to four 1 GbE ports on a daughter card, with optional 10 GbE upgrades available separately.

Redundant power and iDRAC8 remote management

Two 750 W redundant power supplies and hot-plug drive carriers allow component replacement without shutting down the server. The integrated iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller provides out-of-band remote console, virtual media and hardware monitoring over a dedicated management port. Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot support additional NICs, HBAs or GPU accelerators, while the Matrox G200eR2 graphics chip handles basic video output for local console access.
