The Dell PowerEdge R730xd packs two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v3 processors at 2.3 GHz with 18 cores each into a 2U rack chassis. Thirty-six threads and 64 GB of DDR4-2133 ECC memory give virtualisation hosts and database nodes the core count and memory bandwidth they need. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages up to twenty-four 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives for local storage capacity.

Platinum redundant power and thermals

Two 750 W platinum-efficiency hot-swap supplies share the load, keeping the system running if one unit fails. Front-to-rear airflow across the 2U form factor moves heat from the CPUs, memory risers and drive bays without requiring extreme fan speeds in typical rack environments. The iDRAC 8 Enterprise module provides out-of-band monitoring of temperatures, fan curves and power draw so operators can tune cooling policies remotely.

Sustained throughput for storage-heavy workloads

Dual 10 Gb SFP+ and dual 1 GbE ports on the X520/I350 daughter card feed data to the PERC H730, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode.
