The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays into a 2U rack chassis. A single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor runs at 1.9 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 memory installed across twenty-four DIMM slots. The system ships with three 2 TB SAS drives and a Perc H730 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750 W redundant power supplies and a DVD-ROM complete the baseline configuration.

Suited to capacity-focused workloads

This server targets environments that prioritise raw storage density over compute throughput, such as backup repositories, archival storage or software-defined storage nodes. The six-core CPU and modest 8 GB memory ceiling limit virtualisation density and database performance, so buyers needing heavy concurrent VM counts or in-memory analytics should look at configurations with additional processors and larger memory populations. The four onboard 1 GbE ports may also constrain high-throughput network storage scenarios.
