Dual-processor 2U rack server

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rackmount server fitted with two Intel Silver 4210R processors. Each CPU delivers ten cores at 2.4GHz with 13.75M cache. The system ships with 256GB of DDR4 memory installed across sixteen 16GB modules running at 2666MT/s. It is aimed at organisations that need dense compute and memory in a standard rack footprint.

Eight-bay chassis with H730P controller

The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays populated with two 120GB SATA RI SSDs managed by a H730P RAID controller. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X550 adapter offering two 10Gb RJ45 ports and two 1Gb RJ45 ports. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for expansion cards. Redundant 1100W power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management are included, along with rails, bezel and power cords.

Confirm that your rack can accommodate a 2U unit with the supplied rails and that the available depth suits the chassis length. Check that any add-in cards fit within the PCIe Gen 3 slot limits and the physical space behind the drive cage. The server has no optical drive, so plan for network or USB installation media.
