The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack-mount server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 5218 processors running at 2.3GHz. Sixteen cores and 22MB cache per CPU give 32 threads for virtualisation, database or compute workloads. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across two 16GB modules. It is aimed at IT teams building on-premise clusters or edge nodes that need dense 3.5-inch storage capacity.

Eight-bay 3.5-inch chassis with PERC H730P

The 8LFF chassis accepts up to eight 3.5-inch SATA drives, though none are installed in this configuration. A Dell PERC H730P RAID controller manages the backplane and supports hardware RAID levels for redundancy or performance. The 10GbE dual-port 562T adapter provides high-throughput networking for storage replication or VM migration. Maximum memory capacity reaches 3TB when all DIMM slots are populated.

Dual 750W supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise

Two 750W power supplies deliver redundancy for continuous operation in a standard rack. Integrated iDRAC9 with Enterprise licence enables remote power cycling, console redirection and firmware updates without physical access. Integrated graphics handle basic display output for installation and troubleshooting. The system ships without drives, rails or operating system, so buyers must supply storage, mounting hardware and licences to complete the build.
