The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack system built for business workloads such as file storage, virtualization, databases, backups and application hosting. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6152 processors running at 2.10GHz deliver 44 cores in total, providing dependable performance for multi-service environments. 256GB of DDR4 PC4-2666V memory across 24 slots supports multiple virtual machines and data-heavy applications. The H730P Mini RAID controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, and sliding 4-post rails are included for rack mounting.

Check power, networking

The server ships with dual 750W platinum power supplies and two power cords, so confirm your rack PDU can supply the required connections. Network interfaces are dual-port 10GB SFP+ and dual-port 1GB RJ-45; verify that your switch has compatible SFP+ modules and copper ports. Twelve 3.5-inch drive caddies are installed, but no hard drives are included, so plan the capacity and drive type you need. The iDRAC9 Express remote access controller is present for out-of-band management.

Replaces older 2U rack servers

This configuration upgrades from systems that cannot run as many concurrent virtual machines or that lack 10GB SFP+ networking.
