The Dell PowerEdge R940 fits four Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors, each with 14 cores at 2.2 GHz, into a 3U rack chassis. It targets organisations that need high thread counts and large memory capacity for database, virtualisation or analytics tasks. The system ships with 512 GB of DDR4 ECC memory across 16 modules, leaving 32 slots free for future expansion up to the platform maximum. 512 GB DDR4 with headroom to 6 TB

The installed 512 GB (16 × 32 GB) DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory handles sizeable in-memory workloads today, while 48 total slots allow growth to 6 TB when demand increases. Storage is provided by eight 1.2 TB 10 K SAS drives on a PERC H730P 2 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through. The 2.5-inch drive bays limit raw capacity compared with larger bays, and no SSDs are included, so latency-sensitive tiers require separate procurement.

Quad-port networking, iDRAC9 Enterprise
