Enterprise tower server for virtualization

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server built around two Intel Xeon Silver 4214 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. Twelve cores per processor deliver 24 threads for multi-threaded workloads such as VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, Proxmox VE, database hosting and software-defined storage. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four DIMMs and supports expansion up to 1 TB across 16 slots.

Sixteen hot-swap bays and a PERC H330 controller

Sixteen 2.5-inch drive trays accept SAS, SATA or SSD media and connect to the Dell PERC H330 12 Gb/s storage controller for RAID configuration. Dual integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports handle network traffic while iDRAC 9 Express provides out-of-band remote management. Two redundant 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies support hot-swap replacement. PCI Express slots remain available for additional RAID, networking, GPU or other expansion cards the buyer may add.

Upgrade path from smaller tower

This configuration replaces single-socket towers or older 4U systems that lack the core count, memory headroom or drive density needed for consolidated virtualization and database workloads. The jump is worth it when workloads exceed the memory capacity or storage bay count of a 16-slot DDR4 platform with a single processor. Buyers who need rack-mount rails, a front bezel or pre-populated drives should source those separately as they are not included.
